Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Calls for Action on Women, Peace, and Security
We commend President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for creating the first ever U.S. National Action Plan to help reduce violence against women and girls and expand women's roles in peace-keeping, peace-building and reducing conflict. This plan was developed as a result of the United States commitment to U.N. Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.
"The U.S. national action plan is an incredibly important step in our nation's effort to create futures without violence for all of us," said Esta Soler, President and Founder of Futures Without Violence. "We know women and girls are disproportionately harmed by conflict and rape as a weapon of war, but what this Action Plan makes clear is that women are also the solution. We stand with this Administration determined to help women find their vital and rightful place at the peace-making and peace-building tables."
