RESPECT! Challenge Winners

After much deliberation, we are proud to announce the two grand prize winners of the RESPECT! Challenge:

Alandra Abrams of Philadelphia, PA. Alandra wrote a “thank you note” about her junior high school music teacher, Mrs. Karen Michalka, who taught her about love and respect in the face of adversity, and inspired her to become a music teacher as well. Alandra chose Tilden Middle School in Philadelphia as the recipient of the $10,000 prize.

 

The Saginaw High School Teen Advisory Council of Saginaw Charter Township, MI (submitted by Amanda Forsmark). The group of Michigan students created a video thanking their role models—from mothers to teachers—for teaching them about respect. The group chose Health Delivery, Inc as the recipient of the $10,000 prize. Health Delivery, Inc. operates a health center at Saginaw High School, providing students with a range of health services and programs.

In addition to $10,000 to be donated to the nonprofit or school of their choice, both winners will also get a VIP trip to New York City to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Thank you to everyone who participated in the RESPECT! Challenge. The number of creative, thoughtful, and moving entries we received completely exceeded our expectations.

We want to extend a special thank you to Macy’s, the Founding National Partner of the RESPECT! Campaign. To date, Macy’s has raised more than $5.7 million for prevention and education programs that promote positive role modeling and healthy relationships.
 
We also received generous support from ideas and innovation agency AKQA; social media marketing software provider Wildfire, a division of Google; and AOL’s in-house creative team. And finally, we’re grateful to the celebrities who volunteered their time and talent for the video that launched our campaign!
