Our Hearts Are With Newtown

We are filled with overwhelming sadness for those who lost their loved ones in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday. Pictured above are some of the children of our Futures Without Violence family. As parents, relatives, and caregivers, our hearts and thoughts go out to the families of the young children whose bright futures were taken in an instant, and those families of the adults who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

In a statement, President Obama said:

“We’ve endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years. And each time I learn the news I react not as a President, but as anybody else would — as a parent. And that was especially true today. I know there’s not a parent in America who doesn’t feel the same overwhelming grief that I do.”

Tragedies such as these remind us of what is fundamentally human. Everyone deserves the right to live a life free from violence and abuse. We must protect, promote, and fight for this right. For the children and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary School. For our own kids. And for future generations who, if we commit to change, will someday live in a world free of violence.
