Building Health Care Leadership: A Systems Advocacy Approach to Addressing Domestic Violence in the Health Care System
The Family Violence Prevention Fund health team is presenting a webinar on the basic elements of working collaboratively with health care systems to establish an institutionalized response to domestic violence. This webinar will assist domestic violence advocates and health care providers in gaining administrative buy-in, building leadership to sustain a response, understanding the health care system’s infrastructures and how they can contribute to strengthening the response to patients experiencing domestic violence, setting realistic goals and objectives, and evaluating progress. The webinar will also identify materials and tools that can help develop a successful health care response to domestic violence. Nancy Durborow, a consultant with the Family Violence Prevention Fund and Susan Hadley, MPH, founder of WomanKind, will present. BMCC VIII: The Unity Conference
The Eighth Annual Battered Mothers Custody Conference will focus this year on connecting battered mothers with organizations working locally, nationally and internationally to combat unjust family court practices that harm battered mothers and their children. It will include presentations, round-table discussions and question-and-answer sessions with nationally distinguished professionals who work to resolve the complex issues facing battered women as they strive to protect themselves and their children in and out of court during custody and visitation disputes. The conference is open to lay persons and of special interest to
advocates, social workers, psychologists, attorneys, judges, legal personnel, and others involved in battered women’s and abused children’s legal and civil rights being violated by family courts and other government systems. Click here for more information.

January 14, 2011 – Call for Workshop Proposals Due

2011 National Sexual Assault Conference
The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center are calling for proposals for the 2011 National Sexual Assault Conference. Workshops on all aspects of the sexual violence continuum are being sought, including discussions focused on counseling, medical and legal advocacy, education and outreach, sexual harassment, legal issues, intervention and prevention issues, public awareness, community organizing, policy change, and program development. Workshop proposals that focus on the uniqueness and value of sexual assault specific programs and service – and that engage in a culturally competent approach to traditionally underserved populations – are welcome. Some 500 people are expected, including advocates, counselors, medical and nursing personnel, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, social workers, and psychologists from throughout the United States. The conference will be held in Baltimore, Maryland on September 14-16, 2011. Submit a proposal online.
