BMCC VIII: The Unity Conference
The Eighth Annual Battered Mothers Custody Conference will focus this year on connecting battered mothers with organizations working locally, nationally and internationally to combat unjust family court practices that harm battered mothers and their children. It will include presentations, round-table discussions and question-and-answer sessions with nationally distinguished professionals who work to resolve the complex issues facing battered women as they strive to protect themselves and their children in and out of court during custody and visitation disputes. The conference is open to lay persons and of special interest to
advocates, social workers, psychologists, attorneys, judges, legal personnel, and others involved in battered women’s and abused children’s legal and civil rights being violated by family courts and other government systems. Click here for more information.

Responding to Lifetime Exposure to Abuse in Home Visitation Programs
How does domestic violence interfere with home visitation goals to improve maternal and child health outcomes? Given the impact of violence on both mothers and children, how can we promote health and safety, and strengthen bonding of mothers and children already being seen by home visitors? The Family Violence Prevention Fund is hosting a webinar to explore those questions and more. Presenters will also explore how to safely involve men in conversations about their own exposure to violence and focus on empathy and strength-based approaches as a way to support parents and stop intergenerational violence. The webinar will address new tools and model programs and conclude with an interactive question-and-answer session. It will be held on January 18 from 11 AM - 12:30 PM PST (2 PM - 3:30 PM EST).
