National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women Named

Family Violence Prevention Fund Senior Vice President Debbie Lee is one of 14 experts and leaders named to the U.S. Office on Violence Against Women’s (OVW) new National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women. The Committee of highly regarded advocates, researchers, and justice system and child welfare professionals is tasked with providing advice and recommendations to the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services on how to improve the nation’s response to violence against women.

The Committee will focus on successful interventions with children and teens who witness and/or are victimized by domestic violence or sexual assault.

  • Betsy McAlister Groves, Director, Child Witness to Violence Project, Department of Pediatrics, Boston Medical Center
  • Carol Post, Executive Director,Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence
  • Francine Sherman, Esquire,Clinical Professor Boston College Law School
  • The Honorable Melvin Stoof, Associate Judge,Pascua Yaqui Tribal Court
  • Joe Torre, Chairman,The Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation
  • Gabrielle Union, Advocate
  • Dr. Sujata Warrier, Director, New York City Program of the New York Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence


OVW worked with Attorney General Eric Holder to re-charter the Committee. It will provide advice and recommendations to the government. The Committee will meet twice a year beginning in 2011.
