Start Strong Teens Tackle How to Break-Up

Sep 6, 2011

Break-ups are a difficult part of dating relationships. They can also sometimes be a very volatile and dangerous part of teen dating. However, the lesson of how and when to break-up, is one that’s often left out of the conversations parents have with their teens about dating.

On July 14, Start Strong teens across the country came together for a one-of-a kind National Virtual Break-up Summit and discussed things like, “When is it safe to break-up?” and “What’s the best way to do it?” Teens from all the Start Strong sites participated in this webinar and shared their best practices and experiences ending relationships. The summit contained both online and offline components. Teens were given the opportunity to talk through scenarios, discuss the differences and similarities in how boys and girls process break-ups and develop plans for how to break-up in safe and healthy ways. The National Virtual Break-up Summit, the first of its kind, was facilitated by Start Strong Boston.

Additionally, Start Strong Boston teens took the National Virtual Break-up Summit one step further, by hosting an in-person event, Break-Up Summit 2.0 on July 20. This all-day workshop invited hundreds of teens to dive deeper into breaking-up in a safe way.
