Brian O’connor

A former marketer of global brands and journalist for stories ranging from politics to parenthood, Brian brought his for-profit marketing expertise to the not-for-profit sector to help shape and execute campaigns for public engagement and social impact.
His experience in motivating diverse audiences is vast having partnered with countless institutions and corporations such as the CDC, UN Women (where he is a “HeForShe Champion for Change”), US Dept. of Justice, The Allstate Foundation, Verizon, and Harry’s to name a few. His work has been the recipient of a Webby Award, Communicator Award of Excellence, Y-Pulse GennY Award, and recognized by CLIO Awards and the Cannes Lions.
A lifelong advocate for gender and race equity with a special focus on engaging men and boys, Brian has been named in both popular and academic periodicals and holds a master’s in journalism from Columbia University. He is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and formerly on the boards of the Independent Media Institute and Root Division, an arts education non-profit based in San Francisco where he lives.
